Jeanette LaVance has been volunteering for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Lewis Clark Valley for many years.

Giving her time to advocate for the children of Lewiston, ID, and Clarkston, WA, has long been a passion of hers, but it was never something she thought deserved any special recognition.

So when the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Lewis Clark Valley announced that the longtime Vista Outdoor employee was the winner of its 2021 Volunteer of the Year award for going above and beyond to help kids in the program, she said she was “completely speechless and flattered.”

“I love to help the Boys & Girls Clubs since they provide a safe and positive place for kids to go while their parents are at work,” said LaVance, program administrator at CCI/Speer. “They also help kids with leadership, as well as building their character. It’s hard to describe how relieved you are knowing your children will be in this environment after school and during the summer. I’m a past parent member of the Clubs since I have three children (all adults now) who went through the programs at the club. Our kids are our future, and we want the best for them, which is what the club provides.”

LaVance will be recognized at the Clubs’ annual dinner and banquet in January. There, she will be celebrated and thanked for her “advocacy on behalf of our kids, our Clubs and our community,” the Clubs’ executive director, Jon Evans, said in an email announcing the award.

Evans added that presenting the award to LaVance is extra special because the organization will be recognizing someone who also was a Boys & Girls Club parent. The Clubs’ annual dinner and celebration will take place Jan. 21 at Hells Canyon Grand Hotel in Lewiston.
