Swapping Pit BBQ for Pit Row

Camp Chef leaders take on NASCAR. Why? VRROOM bragging rights!​​​​​​​

Not unlike a typical day on the job, 21 Camp Chef leaders spent the day on the campus of Bridgerland Technical College in Logan, Utah rolling up their sleeves and getting their hands dirty in the spirit of teamwork. Instead of focusing on making the company’s popular grills, smokers and outdoor cooking accessories, they turned to automotive equipment and parts. The group split up into four teams, each working together to assign roles, practice techniques and build out a strategy to change tires on a NASCAR racing vehicle. Teams found ways to support each other and make incremental improvements to their approach and process.

Did we mention it was not only a challenge to develop communication and teamwork skills … it was a competitive challenge to see which team was fastest at changing out tires? It was!

In all, 80 tires were changed resulting in a few scraped knuckles and a whole lot of laughter and encouraging cheers made the training a hit. The winning team changed two tires in 38.7 seconds. But none were ready to quit their day jobs. Bragging rights were enough!

The winning team: Brett Bennett (Director of Engineering), Andrea Hayner (Manage,  Customer Service), Marshall Donnell (Manager, Warehouse), Brandon Plaster ( Sr. Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis) and Corey Hibbard (Sales Account Manager).
