Protecting Future Powder Days

Lack of snow: A real disappointment for the snowsports community.

This is why Giro partners with Protect Our Winters (POW), a community of snowsport enthusiasts looking to make a movement on climate and create the political will for meaningful action by state and federal policymakers.

In 2007, pro snowboarder Jeremy Jones founded POW after he noticed an increase of closed resorts due to a lack of snow. With an urge to act, Jones looked to motivate fellow snowsport athletes to address the impacts of climate change. To date, the organization has over 130,000 supporters.

In collaboration with POW, Giro’s snow division has shaken hands year after year on its partnership, supporting the organization with 6 percent of proceeds of both helmet and goggle SKUs. Giro’s contribution helps the livelihoods that depend on healthy winters – including its own snow division. According to the POW website, the industry supports more than 7.6 million jobs and creates $887 billion in economic revenue. An industry with a big economic impact, Jones found the perfect group to give a national voice to outdoor sports.

“For the last three years, we’ve hung our helmets high on the Giro X POW collaboration,” said Travis Tomczak, Product Manager for Giro’s goggle division. “We’re proud to support POW each year with proceeds from the helmet and goggle sales.” Travis explained POW is instrumental in Giro’s industry and it plays a big role in the future health of our sport and environment.

“For that we thank them, and we’ll continue to support them as they support us,” he said. Giro also supports POW outside through social media, contests and awareness.

Helmets off to Giro for contributing to an effort that will protect our future powder days!
