A Shot to Support our Youth
Federal Premium donates five cases of ammo to the 29th South Dakota Youth Goose Hunt
For nearly 30 years, the Central South Dakota Youth Goose Hunt has exposed 12 to 15-year-old kids to a weekend goose hunt. Event organizer Tyson Keller, who has been involved with the event since he was young enough to hunt in it, now leads the groups through the Pierre, South Dakota hunt each year.
Since 2014, Vista Outdoor/Federal Premium has been donating ammo to support the youth educational program. This year, that came in the form of three cases of WF143 BB – 12GA 3″ 1 1/8OZ 1550 FPS BB and two cases of WF209 2 – 20 GA 3″ 7/8 OZ 1550 FPS 2.
Keller followed up after the Jan. 11-13 event this year, stating that our ammo was equally distributed among five hunting groups. Thirty kids went out in groups of six each day for a total of around 60 kids. The groups harvested around 140 geese, despite some of the lowest bird counts in the area.
Because of the hard work among the youth hunt committee, involvement from our sponsors, and landowner access, the 29th Annual Youth Goose Hunt was another stellar event.
